Spill Containment on Land
How do I use spill containment on land?
Spill containment is essential whenever liquids are handled, stored, or transported — whether chemicals or edible products. The right solution depends on your site, application, and the liquids involved.
What is bunding?
Bunding is a raised perimeter system that prevents liquids from spreading beyond a defined area. Capacity is determined by the bunded area’s dimensions and wall height.
What type should I choose?
Floor Bunding — A permanent solution for warehouses, fuel stations, decanting areas, and wash bays. Material selection should account for site conditions, trafficability, and chemical compatibility.
Portable Bunding — A relocatable option for temporary spill control. Available in various capacities with drive-over and walk-on configurations to suit different site requirements.
When do I need bunding?
Bunding is required wherever liquids are stored, and can also provide secondary containment for leakprone equipment or capture wastewater during washdowns. Refer to the following Australian standards for regulatory and capacity guidance:
- AS 1940 – Flammable and combustible liquids
- AS 4326-1995 – Oxidising agents
- AS 3780-2008 – Corrosive substances
- AS/NZS 4452:1997 – Toxic substances
